Chest Voice Exercises return to exercise directory
The following exercises will begin the development of
the chest voice. These exercises may seem very rudimentary but we have to be
careful when working the chest voice. It is that part of
the voice which , if abused and pushed to high in its raw state, can cause a great
deal of injury to the vocal chords.
If you have been belting a great deal you
should not do these exercises until you have worked your head voice for several
weeks.
Don't be afraid to let these exercises be a little raucous. If, you consider yourself a soprano you will want to work the chest voice in
order to increase your range.
We will only work this part of your voice in a very narrow vocal range in order to be safe. The chest voice
needs to be developed in all women's voices in order to have a complete
vocal range. It also contributes the power of your voice. After working the
chest voice always work some bouncing head voice exercises or do a little
falsetto 'shoo". to reawaken the head voice. Some women find it very
difficult to activate the chest voice. If that is your case, when we have your
free consultation I may decide to give you some short term exercises to get the
chest voice working. I Won't put them on this CD because they are rather
radical and should only be utilized until the chest voice appears. If you have
no trouble makeing a solid sound in the chest voice you can begin using the
Blending exercises. You will probably want to
discuss this with me before you begin to use these exercises.
